Renovation of the original 1938 Chemical Engineering Building has been an on-going Gibraltar Design project since 2003. Construction is occurring in four phases designed to coincide with departmental funding and donation opportunities. Now known as the Forney Hall of Chemical Engineering, the original portion of this building houses 83,427 square feet of office and laboratory spaces on five levels.
Gibraltar Design worked with department scientists to reconfigure laboratory and office spaces for modern curriculum needs. Engineering work includes new HVAC systems, new electrical service and distribution, updated plumbing systems, and telecommunications capabilities. A new large group meeting room was created on the third floor of the building. Casework, trim, finishes, and furnishings complemented the traditional woodwork of the original building. The room has technology built in for video conferencing and a high quality audio-visual experience.
