Heine Pharmacy
(Purdue University)

Gibraltar Design conducted a total renovation of the existing medicinal chemistry research facilities in the Robert Heine Pharmacy Building to house National Institute of Health sponsored research and programs.

The design, an outgrowth of more than five years of comprehensive planning, eliminated and combined many small laboratories on the second through fifth floors of the building, and replaced them with larger laboratories that provided greater safety and functionality. The new laboratories also have separate space allocated for offices and computers so students can work nearby. All work at each stage of design was formally reviewed by the National Center for Research Resources of the NIH who provided significant funding for the project. More than twenty laboratories used by student researchers were upgraded in a four-phase project. Three phases were specific to the laboratories and the remaining phase consisted of mechanical and electrical infrastructure upgrades.
